I am doing the top end on a 1600cc block which has single port heads. I have a new set of 87mm cylinders & pistons. I am considering 1.25 rockers, but I was going to leave most other items stock. Should I not bother with the rockers or would I gain any performance benefits worth the effort. The heads are rebuilt stock.

If you are not going to a dual carb set up or a high lift cam I can't see the rocker making a huge difference.

I'd rather have a partial bottle in front of me than a partial frontal lobotomy.

Installing 1.25:1 rockers on a stock 1600 VW engine will add 6 HP. on the dyno. 6hp is quite noticable when you are starting with 60 HP. Adding them with the larger cylinders will help even more. Make sure you get the rocker arm geometry set up correctly, otherwise you will start wearing valvetrain components.
