Hi,

I have two sets of bearings and seals, which i thought may fit the front wheels of My 1968 beetle with disc brakes.

from what I have read, I believe the drum and disc bearings are the same..

My Beetle was made in April 1968 and the VW part numbers for that model are:

311 405 625 inner bearing assy 1966 to chassis 118 657 239 in 1968.

311 405 645 outer bearing assy - 1966-1977

131 405 641A oil seal 1966 - 118 657 239 in 1968.

I do have 2 sets of L44649-L44610 and LM11749-LM11710

and seals 111 405 641B..  whether these fit My beetle??

I don't know....

Anyone with any information on these bearings etc..??

My Son has a 1956 beetle with disc brakes and the bearings are 30304 & 30305 metric cone and tapered rollers..

His 1969 beetle with disc brakes has L68149-L68110

and LM 12749-LM12710 ....

so the puzzle is getting harder...

I searched your bearing numbers and came up with this pages:

http://www.tolbearings.com/bearings_7.html

I also found those numbers on a page that supplies bearings for trailers.

The 111 405 641B seal came up as:

Front wheel seal Type 1 from 6/68 w/drum brakes.

Thanks Wayne,

I printed out those bearing numbers and sizes....

but, it looks as though I won't know whats in My beetle until I take them out...

I did give all My bearing info to a Beetle owner in Australia trying to find out the bearing numbers of His 1970 or 71 beetle.. and it turned out the numbers I had written down to suit My beetle were correct for his car..

it looks like My bearing and seal were used only in early 1968 beetle in Australia...

so, I'm hoping they are just common bearings...

I should buy a couple of genuine seals from a VW shop, to make sure I have the correct seals.. for My model...

I have 3 seals, two look like genuine VW seals but they don't have a VW part number on the bags.. maybe on the seal themselves... I'll have to look..

cheers
