1971 beetle generator my son drove to work he called and said the gen light comes on when the car is shut off .when you start it it goes off  . So i go into town and get it. on the way home the light comes on. get home i pull the brushes everything looks good but the brushes look close to being wore out .so im ordering some why would the light come on at first when the key was off and out. im hoping its just brushes i thought mayby the reg. had the points stuck or something any ideas thanks

I've never come across that one before...

the lamps shouldn't work with the ignition turned off....

 

that is a strange one....

yes vws continual learning i told my son there great comuter cars but you really have to maintain them .so far im doing the maintinance and hes doing the commuting
