June 2-3, 2007: Mid America Motorworks Funfest for Air-Cooled VW: Effingham, IL. America Motorworks’ Funfest for Air-Cooled VW is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Last Oval Window Beetle, as thousands of air-cooled Volkswagens and their enthusiastic owners converge in Effingham, Illinois for two days of VW mania – Saturday and Sunday, June 2-3, 2007. Back by popular demand for 2007, is a Saturday evening road tour which ends at an authentic 1940’s-era Art Deco Theater, where participants will be treated to a free private showing of the Disney/Pixar animated movie Cars.

Hosted at the company headquarters in Effingham, Illinois, Funfest for Air-Cooled VW 2007 is the annual “customer appreciation party” thrown by Mid America Motorworks as a way of saying “thank you” to its air-cooled Volkswagen customers and enthusiasts. The free weekend event has grown steadily over the years to more than 1,200 Volkswagens of all descriptions and more than 8,000 enthusiasts. Participants come together for a whirlwind weekend of special displays, a car show, swap meet, tech seminars, product demonstrations, ladies’ events, kids’ events and more. On both Saturday and Sunday “Celebrity Choice” award judging takes place. Camping, another Funfest tradition, is free on the grounds on Friday and Saturday nights.

This year, Oval Window Beetles will be the featured car of the MY Garage Museum & Retail Store with a new twist. The cars will be showcased outside the museum so attendees can get up close and personal to the cars. Car owners can also be on hand to answer questions about their cars while still enjoying the show. “We’ve had a lot of great Volkswagens we wanted to showcase in the Museum over the years, but their owners preferred to be outside with their cars to enjoy the show, so we felt this was a good alternative”, says Mid America Motorworks’ Chief Cheerleader and host of Funfest, Mike Yager.

Also at Funfest, the 2007 winners of Platinum Bug Award will be announced. The Platinum Bug Award is a life-time achievement award presented annually to individuals who have shown long-term dedication to the preservation and promotion of the Classic Volkswagen hobby for future generations. The awards’ 2006 inaugural recipients were Dr. Mac Jones of Somerville, TN and David L. Hanks of Sandoval, IL. Nominations should be sent to mail@mamotorworks.com. Please include name and contact information of both nominator and nominee and the reason he or she should be considered.
