Hi,

Many type 1 and type 2 owners use High Octane Gas [unleaded] in their cars in Australia.

Our "normal" unleaded gasoline is around 90-91 RON...

We use 98 RON high octane unleaded gasoline with no additives.

Some VW owners do use a lead replacement additive but VW engines do have hardened seats and valve guides.

I have thought of adding an additive... it can't hurt...

and some owners over here do use a fuel additive...

What gasoline do you use??

Do You use an additive [lead substitute]

MY72BUG
I run MY72BUG on 87 octane regular unleaded.  At the end of last season, I thought that I should go by the book which recommends 91 octane.  Unfortunately, this was my last fill-up of the driving season and I did only about 20 km. on that tank of gas on the way to storage on a rather cool day.  ( I always store the car with a full tank and gas stabilizer to prevent separation of the fuel and condensation from forming in the tank over the winter.)   With the type of putt-putting around that I do, I don't know if I will notice much difference with a higher octane gas.  We will see.   Dan in Goderich

Hi Dan,

We don't run the high octane for extra power, its so the engine will run cooler and not ping etc...

as the normal lower octane is too low for the engine..

In type 2 engines over here, it recommended to enlargen the jets in the carby so the engine won't run too lean...

and then run high octane fuel....

enlargening the jets and using high octane can make their engines go better....

its because the engines were made to run on higher octane leaded gas.

cheers

I hate to spend the money for the high octane fuel, but it seems to run smoother and cooler.
